Family Gathering
The Matriarch
These four paintings all share a common theme--the layers of memories gradually surfacing from the unconscious.

This group actually began with Past Agendas IV which deals solely with my years in Switzerland, and is meant to convey the strength of the towering Alps, the crisp snow and ice, the visa stamps of travel and the great mystery of that land in the Shadow of the Alps.

In Family Gathering, the first of the group, the myriad facets of the Self are discovered and revealed.
Although one cannot be sure if these phantoms are past lives, genetic memories or pure creations of the unconscious.

The Matriarch and The Father Figure evolved in tandem.
The Matriarch also reflects facets of the Self and the power radiating from the matriarchal central figure.

The Father Figure began quite differently.
It was a conscious plan to reflect the events in the first two decades of my life.
It started with collaged copies of my infant/early years through to young adulthood along with important letters and numbers relating to specific years and places.
My H.S. graduation picture is collaged beneath the heart of my father.
The fractured surface of the painting reflects that childhood.
Whether the father and God are interchangeable is moot.
The deeper meaning of the painting is still surfacing.
